  On each of the zoomable interactive area maps, gites and B&Bs are indicated using colour-coded clickable location markers. Colour codes indicate the size and nature of the property, and the booking methods used.
   Generally speaking, you'll get the best booking rates with gites and cottages where you book directly with owners. Most of the properties listed on Gitelink can be booked in this way, on the owners' own websites. avoiding extra booking agency fees.

  However  many gite owners do not have their own websites, and so need to use the services of booking sites or agencies. Gitelink works with Booking.com, which does not normally charge any fees to the visitor, only to the accommodation provider. Visitors are reminded that in most parts of France a small tourist tax will be added to the stated rental fee, whether the visitor has booked directly or through an agency.

Most gites listed on Gitelink have English speaking proprietors – either native English speakers or French owners with a good, and sometimes excellent, command of English. The majority of gites are traditional rural properties, often lovingly renovated by their owners. A small number are more recent buildings.  An even smaller number are in traditional buildings in historic quarters of towns or cities in France.
   All gites and b&bs listed with Gitelink are properties with character, and have outside spaces, from large gardens to patios. See individual properties for details.
